Can foreshortening the human body be as simple as foreshortening cylinders and boxes? Well, sort of - yes! But only if we break down the human body into cylinders and boxes first.

That's where the Mannequin Model comes into play - an interpretation of the human body made of cylinders, spheres and boxes. Using these simple forms to represent the human figure makes it immensely easier to construct, pose and of course - foreshorten.
